Write a paragraph comparing the two characters Jack and Ralph from the novel. Your paragraph should use at least 2 quotes from the book to prove your point?

I will compare and contrast these two characters to show that they are very different and also very alike.

Ralph starts as a leader to the whole group of stranded kids and Jack starts as a potential leader . “I ought to be chief because I’m chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp.” , said Jack (Page 19). Ralph and Jack wanted to implement rules. “I agree with Ralph. We’ve got to have rules and obey them” said Jack. Jack represents evil in the book  by his savagery. Ralph doesn’t represent evil in the book.

Lisa stole the food. She was put on trial. Conflict was one of the issues addressed.

Can you identify elements of historical/political issues in the episode?

Yes, there is always conflict in politics.

Do you think that John Krakauer is a biased author?

Yes, I think John Krakauer is a biased author because he said that Chris was very intelligent and  had “great ideas”.

He was also mentally ill like Chris because he did the same thing as Chris when he was younger.

What challenges does Chris face in this chapter (16) and how does he overcome them?

The biggest challenge for Chris was to find food. Chis had to hunt for food.

At this stage in the novel how do you feel about Chris and what advice would you give him?

I feel it is a consequence of his actions. i would tell Chris to walk for 10 minutes up the river.

Summer 2013

I hate Disneyland because it’s boring.  I have been to California 12 times for a month and not the nice part.  I go to a physiotherapy clinic for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week for 4 weeks, 8am  to 1pm.  My day starts with spider therapy with Bart.  All the  physiotherapists are great except one, Cody; he is a libertarian.  He thinks everyone should have guns.  My favourite therapist is Magda.  She is easier than Ralph.  I love Ralph because he is so tough.  Ralph was a hockey player in Ontario.  I have friends at the clinic.  One of my friends’ mom is a bad-ass Chicago cop!  Her phone has a bedazzled ‘ Hello Kitty’ case.  I am not sure if I will go back to the clinic next year, I’m bored of the trip, I’m bored of Disneyland, traffic, air, guns and Americans.

But I like my work at the clinic because I feel stronger after the four weeks, it is also something to do over the summer,  I also like the therapists.  I would not know how to get around all the LA highways if we didn’t go there.  I kind of like the things we do in California like Laguna Beach, driving up to the Hollywood sign, Warner Brothers studio tour, Santa Monica, Jewish Deli’s, The Farmer’s Market at the Grove, Mama Cossa’s and Casa Garcia.  I hope we stay at a different hotel next year because the Residence Inn, where we stay, needs a renovation.

This summer we also went to Nova Scotia for my grandmother’s 85th birthday.  I liked seen Nana and my Aunts and Uncles, they are the nicest people on earth.  I love them.
